My Top 15 Horror Movies

I've compiled a list of some of my favorite Halloween movies both old and new. These recommendations vary from the known classics to underrated contenders that don't often make the list of critics.

1. The Shining

The visual mastery and combination of perfect casting and set design help Kubrick create a masterpiece of horror.

2. The Exorcist

Hands down the best film about possession.

3. Rosemary's Baby

This film is the epitome of psychological horror. One that spirals out of control with an amazing performance from Mia Farrow

4. Nightmare on Elm Street

To do this day, the practical visual effects are haunting.

5. The Conjuring

The non traditional scares in this film leave you on the edge of your seat. You no longer believe ghosts will only show up at night...

6. Halloween

7. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The low budget cinematography give this film an early feel of handheld horror.

8. The Innocents

A film that helped set the tone for psychological horror and influenced many films on this list.

9. Let the Right One In

Combine little children with the foreign element of vampires and I'm already shivering.

10. Frankenstien (1931)

Amazing how its production and special effects have held up over 80 years.

11. The Hills have Eyes (Remake)

When I saw this in theaters, people got up and left within the first 20 minutes. Its brutal violence makes you uncomfortable.

12. 28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later

Hard to place just one of these films in the list. In my opinion, this franchise helped reboot the stagnant zombie genre.

13. The Thing

These next two films carry a similar theme, one that makes you question every person around you.

14. It Follows

One of the few modern films to bust through the list, this horror flick does a great job creating suspense, terror and tension all combined with a hipster soundtrack.

15. Se7en

Place this movie in whatever genre you'd like, this film terrifies you because its hard to believe a human being could be capable of such madness.

Below I thought it would be appropriate to add my personal list for horror films I've never seen and plan on pushing through before 10/31/16

3. Body Snatchers

4. The Mummy

5. Creature of the Black Lagoon
